Drynuary, Hopalong, & Broken Bones

Drynuary, Hopalong, & Broken Bones

January was a whirlwind of a month!

It marked 6 months of volunteering at Hopalong & Second Chance Animal Rescue for me.  I've been primarily working with the Canine Program Manager, Alex Sanchez, to transition pups from shelters to their forever homes.  I manage the paperwork, record information in the online database, spotcheck for missing procedures, and send medical information home once the pups are adopted.  Foster failing with Sunny has been a blessing as well, allowing me to understand the adoption process at a much deeper level.

Speaking of Sunny, his daredevil ways finally got the best of him.  He landed wrong while running amok and broke the radius and ulna of his front leg.  He had surgery to repair the fractures and now we're waiting the 6-8 weeks for the bones to heal.  It's been an expensive winter for this little guy!

Coincidentally, we already made the decision to focus on our savings this year.  Our challenge for this month was Drynuary.  Since we enjoy specialty craft beers and checking out breweries, which are both pretty pricey, we thought this would be a good place to start.  What changed?  Not much, and a whole lot.  We didn't feel different at all, but went out less often (saving when we did) and drank a LOT more tea!  I can't say I hate to have the extra calories freed up for extra food either.  ;)

Looking forward to all that February has in store for us next... I hear SF Beer Week is coming up.

Hopalong has kitties too... So many kitties!!
