Family Roadtripping: PDX → SoCal → Seattle, WA

Roughly 1,117 miles and 20 hours of driving down from Portland to San Diego; 1,192 miles and 19.5 hours from San Diego back to Portland; and 383 miles and 9 hours (so much traffic!) to Seattle, Lynnwood, and back again, not including all the side trips once we arrived at each of the destinations. This is a snapshot of our summer whirlwind roadtrip adventures!


Medford and Ashland, OR

Checked out Ashland’s theatres and walked their Downtown Historic District

Sacramento, CA

Met some horses and visited the CA State Capitol, our friends Ellen and Nate, as well as Lauren’s coworkers Misty and Bill

Fresno and Kingsburg, CA

Spent time with Nana, Grandpa Dale, the Peters family, and the Brandt family… when we weren’t avoiding the heat

Topanga, CA

Slept to the sounds of crickets and owls in a beautiful green canyon

Bonsall, CA

Stopped to finally meet and play with Aela, daughter of friends Amanda and Adam

San Diego and Bonita, CA

Explored the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, and visited with Aunt Dana, Meemaw, Grandpa, Baba, and more!

Santa Barbara and Goleta, CA

Visited with Uncle Ben and Auntie Dayna as they hit 40 weeks of pregnancy

Paso Robles, CA

Stopped at one of our favorite breweries Firestone Walker Brewing Company

San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and Alameda, CA

Visited Ocean Beach, the Presidio, friends and former neighbors in Alameda, and Grandpa, Maria, and Aunt Lulu in Berkeley

Dunsmuir and Mt. Shasta, CA

Had the absolute BEST Airbnb stay in Dunsmuir and ventured out to see a tiny waterfall nearby

Eugene and Salem, OR

Stopped to chat with friend and our former doula Jessalyn and visited the OR State Capitol

Seattle and Bainbridge Island, WA

El and Mama explored the city and its surroundings while Tyler met with coworkers in-person

Lynnwood, WA

Played with toys and chatted with cousins Mark, Alexa, and Gavin
