Fostering a Shelter Pup
A week ago, I brought home a 3 month old terrier mix puppy, named Sun.
He was saved from a shelter (along with his siblings, Moon and Star), treated for a flea infestation, and waiting for a temporary foster home when I met him at the Hopalong Animal Rescue offices. He was quiet and a bit shy, but desperate for love and attention. I immediately started texting pictures of the little guy to Tyler and it wasn't long before he too caved to the cuteness and we were making arrangements to bring him home!
He quickly adapted to life with us and I couldn't have been more grateful to the person before us who had him potty trained on towels, making the transition to going in the yard a breeze! He loves to sunbathe and is very quiet, which is very different from the barking that I was accustomed to while growing up with dogs. He did, however, bark for about an hour when a couple song birds flew in to snack on the birdseed I leave out! He didn't start barking until after they had gone, but that's besides the point. ^_^
Sun has been fighting kennel cough since we got him, and what was mainly the sniffles has progressed into a cough that hasn't yet run its course. He got new meds from the vet and, with any luck, this is just what he needs to beat this cold!
He also had his second set of shots yesterday and my heart just about broke seeing how much pain he was in. He insisted on being held and cried anytime I moved, so I held him... until Tyler came home, until dinner was ready, until I was done eating said dinner, and until I could pass him to Tyler who held him until we went to bed. It was a rough day for sure, but he slept it off and he's back to his old self today. Thank goodness!
Now he can turn his focus to getting his bark back. How is he supposed to keep the pesky birds out of his yard if he can't muster up a bark or two?!
