Achievement Unlocked: Homeowner Status
It feels so surreal to say, but we are officially homeowners!
We were spending a lot each month to rent a place with issues that were apparently impossible to solve, like silverfish (do they ever truly go away?) or flimsy shelving (are adjustable shelves worth keeping when they could collapse at any moment, taking all your dishes with them?). We love living in Alameda, so we wondered if there was a home out there for us that would give us the power to give it love whenever it was in need!
We inventoried our finances to figure out how much we could contribute towards a home (more about that process here), went to an open house or two, met Real Estate Agent Anne McKereghan who gave us a few tips (she's fantastic!), and scheduled an appointment with a mortgage banker.
In no time at all, we were back in touch with Anne and viewing ALL THE LISTINGS! Then we found a place we liked and were signing ALL THE PAPERS! Then we were waiting for an answer and getting ALL THE MIXED MESSAGES! Then we were in escrow and had ALL THE FEELS!
It was an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least.
Check out those fixtures! We've never seen anything like them and immediately fell in love. Townhouse condo living FTW!
Escrow was about a month long, but felt SO MUCH LONGER and like NO TIME AT ALL all wrapped up together. Five weeks later, we were back to signing more papers and had the keys by the end of the week!
We broke bread, put up our first piece of art, and shared the guestbook craft beer signed by our wedding guests to commemorate the occasion.
Adulting, are we doing it right?! ^_^
