Achievement Unlocked: We're a Family of Cyclists!

A new cyclist has entered the scene!

Summer of 2021, when El was nearing 2.5 years old, her first bike arrived - a little yellow Woom 1 balance bike! She was eager to try it out and then immediately disregarded it as too difficult.

Two YEARS later, she was interested in it again, but since she was so much bigger, we invested in a new dark green Banwood balance bike that could better accommodate her size. Again, she was eager to try it out and then immediately disregarded it as well. Around that same time, we were given a bigger yellow Woom 2 pedal bike for El to try when she was ready, but it sat as unused as the Banwood balance bike. We were starting to wonder if the bike would ever hold her interest…

Fast forward to a year later (this June), sometime after realizing we could remove the pedals from the Woom 2, El was interested and determined to learn how to ride! When school ended, she went out riding the Woom 2 like a balance bike alongside Meemaw as often as possible. When she started Pedalheads, a local bike camp, she insisted we put the pedals back on and when we returned to pick her up that day, she was pedaling!

We ordered her her own pedal bike the next size up, but were nervous that she wouldn’t be big enough or that the pedal height would be an issue…

After a full six days of camp on the Woom 2 (with a special focus on braking with the hand brakes), however, she switched to her bright green Woom 3! Eleanor now pedals, rides one-handed, can signal as needed, and can even maneuver narrow sidewalk paths with a lot of patience and skill. We can’t wait for the new adventures this unlocks!!
